In 2017, Denver Community Credit Union made a commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve on Indigenous Peoples Day - a Federal Holiday. It's a day all Denver Community Credit Union branches are closed. Instead of taking a holiday, our staff will be uniting in the credit union philosophy of people helping people.
Our 2017 Impact
Last year, on our first #DenverCommunityGives Day, 86 Denver Community staff members volunteered at 6 different Volunteers of America (VOA) Colorado locations. Together, Denver Community staff volunteered a collective 430 hours, which is an estimated $10,000 cost savings for Volunteers of America Colorado!
Our 2018 Impact
On Monday, October 8th, all Denver Community Credit Union staff came together to give back to the communities the credit union serves. We partnered with two well-respected non-profits, Metro Caring and Volunteers of America Colorado, to make an impact through volunteerism. Our staff volunteered at six sites helping support Metro Caring's anti-hunger programs and Volunteers of America Colorado's clients, which include at-risk children, women, seniors, and homeless community members.
Together, our 87 employees volunteered a combined 455 hours, which is an estimated value of $11,200 to our nonprofit #DenverCommunityGives Day partners.
Through the day, staff painted emergency shelter rooms for families in crisis, sorted and packaged food donations, wrote letters to Meals on Wheels recipients, made fleece blankets, played BINGO with seniors, read to at-risk children, and cleaned affordable housing and preschool facilities. Thanks to the financial support of the Mountain West Credit Union Foundation, we purchased paint and supplies to revitalize ten emergency shelter rooms.
Outside of #DenverCommunityGives Day, staff volunteer with organizations year-round.
Denver Community employees have collectively volunteered 1,200 hours so far in 2018!

About Metro Caring
Metro Caring is Denver's frontline anti-hunger organization – they nourish our neighbors and provide them tools to thrive by using a holistic approach to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. Because of volunteer groups like ours, Metro Caring is able to distribute 2+ million pounds of nutritious food to hungry families and individuals while also providing education and tools to help participants improve their health and reach their potential. They offer innovative programming in healthy foods access, nutrition education, cooking classes, ID procurement, utilities assistance, and Seeds for Success job-readiness coaching and training.
