2014 Miracle Marathon
Denver Community Credit Union staff participated in the 2014 Miracle Marathon as a team. The Miracle Marathon is a fundraising campaign benefiting Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. For 27.2 days, participants move one mile of forward movement, or exercise for 20 minutes. While a normal marathon is 26.2 miles, the Miracle Marathon is extra special with an extra mile for the kids. During the Marathon, staff raised $3,479 for Children's Hospital Colorado, and moved 906 miles! What an achievement! Check out our staff's participation in the Miracle Marathon on our Pinterest page.

It was a beautiful day on August 9th for our 2014 Back to School Fair! We were joined by local community partners to bring a meaningful, family-fun experience to our members, and we were also able to provide back to school supplies to participants. We were joined by mpowered, Denver Health, Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation, Denver Police Explorers, Z-Ultimate Aurora, Denver Public Library, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, CUDC, Denver Art Museum, Family Star Montessori and Rockie Mountain Farmer's Union. Each of our partners provided a fun activity for kids to participate in to earn their back to school supplies.
We are proud to say that our 2014 Back to School Fair served over 500 people, including almost 300 kids who received a drawstring backpack with school supplies! Be sure to be on the look out for next year's Back to School Fair!
Our 2014 Back to School Fair is quickly approaching on Saturday, August 9th. The Back to School Fair is in its 5th year, and as grown over the years in popularity. As a popular event for Denver Community Credit Union, there is no shortage of work to be done in preparation for the big day. The biggest task is preparing the school supplies that kids will earn by participating in fun activities with participating partners. Thousands of pencils, sheets of papers, glue sticks and more have to be prepared before-hand. It's something we have down to a science, however; and with a whole lot of team work, we are able to gather the school supplies into Denver Community sling-packs within an hour. We are excited for the coming Back to School Fair, and we are looking forward to seeing all of our participants at the Back to School Fair!
Denver Community Credit Union has been awarded 5 stars in Bankrate.com's Safe & Sound® Ratings service for the quarter ended March 31, 2014. A 5-star rating is the highest award rating and is defined as a "Superior" ranking of relative financial strength and stability. For more than 16 years, Bankrate.com's Safe & Sound® service has given consumers information on the relative financial strength and stability of U.S. commercial banks, savings institutions and credit unions.
"In today's economic climate, it's important for consumers to trust that their money is protected," said Don Ross, CEO of Bankrate.com. "Earning a 4- or 5- star designation from the Safe & Sound® Star Rating is traditionally a strong indicator of financial strength and stability in a financial institution," Mr. Ross added.
"Receiving this rating is truly a reflection of our continued commitment to putting our members, and their best interests, first," said Carla Hedrick, President of Denver Community Credit Union. "Every day, we strive to provide the best possible financial institution for members, and this rating helps validate those efforts in a very tangible way."
Bankrate's Safe & Sound® ratings are comparisons to both industry peer norms and standards. Individual performance levels are determined from publicly available regulatory filings and are compared to asset-size peer norms, industry standards and key absolute benchmarks. Denver Community Credit Union held its 79th Annual Meeting on February 27th, 2014. We had a great turnout, and thank everyone that attended. At the Annual Meeting, members got to hear about some of the plans and initiatives of the credit union for the year to come, as well as the credit union's performance in 2013. The meeting focused on "Credit Union Difference" - what makes credit unions so unique in the financial industry. From our not-for-profit status, to our member-oriented service culture, we truly believe that Denver Community Credit Union (along with all credit unions) makes an impact in the communities we serve. Denver Community Credit Union was the proud Hotline Sponsor for the second year in a row of KYGO’s Christmas Crusade, a fantastic program that was organized in 1984 by a small group of “Santa Cops.” Each year sheriff and police officers across the metro area work to spread the joy of Christmas to thousands of underprivileged children. Officers meet and select these children during their work in their communities throughout the year. KYGO’s Christmas Crusade gave all of us the chance to help these "Santa Cops" bring joy into many households in our local area by donating toys or money to the cause.
This year, thanks to our wonderful members and people from the community, we were able to raise over $2,000 in addition to toy donations. All the donations go directly towards the purchase of toys and gifts for underprivileged children in the Denver Metro area.

This is just one example of how great credit union members and members of the community were at supporting the Christmas Crusade. This was just one example. Every donation no matter how large or small makes all the difference!
Denver Community Credit Union continually strives to be involved in our community. One way we participated with our community this month was by helping to sponsor the Colorado Anti-Violence Program's annual Rooting Down, Rising Up fundraiser, which was on October 22nd. The Colorado Anti-Violence Program has been dedicated for the past 27 years to ending violence within and against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities in Colorado by providing high quality services to survivors of violence. As a sponsor of the annual fundraiser, Denver Community Credit Union was able to reach out to over 250 guests at the sold out event.
It was a really great, touching event to see what the Colorado Anti-Violence Program does for the community. For more information about the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, visit their website.
